# API, MCP and plugins

Choose the connection type before you package anything.

- **REST API:** Your app sends HTTP requests to https://leadsagent.io/api/v1. Use it when your code needs predictable task, results, export and account endpoints. Read the [OpenAPI schema](https://leadsagent.io/documentation/openapi.json).
- **MCP server:** An assistant connects to https://leadsagent.io/mcp/v1 and calls named tools. MCP is a protocol and transport, not an installable package. See the [MCP transport specification](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/2025-06-18/basic/transports) and [MCP authorization specification](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/2025-06-18/basic/authorization).
- **Plugin:** An app-specific package can install instructions, skills or MCP configuration. Each app defines its own manifest and review process. Do not treat a direct MCP connection as a published plugin.

For ChatGPT and Codex packages, see [OpenAI Agent Plugins](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/build/plugins). Direct custom MCP server setup is documented separately in [OpenAI's custom MCP guide](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/custom-mcp-server). OpenAI's public submission flow has separate [submission requirements](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/submission); it does not provide an arbitrary API-key header field, so an X-API-Key client setup alone is not a public-directory plugin.

Claude also separates remote [connector setup](https://claude.com/docs/connectors/building/submission) from a [plugin package](https://claude.com/docs/plugins/quickstart). Cursor supports its own [Agent Plugin format](https://cursor.com/docs/reference/plugins). LeadsAgent's direct connection instructions are not a claim that a LeadsAgent plugin package is published.

OpenAI listing publisher display depends on the selected verified organization identity. A manifest cannot override a personal verified identity. Claude plugin and connector listings have separate registration. MCP server icons are optional protocol identity and do not guarantee catalog branding.

Gemini Apps use the MCP URL directly and document no user-authored branding manifest. Current custom-app eligibility is US personal accounts, age 18+, English, Keep Activity enabled. Antigravity and Gemini CLI do not document local manifest logo/publisher fields. n8n uses an MCP Client Tool; a branded community node is a separate npm product.
